| May 2, 1999 This month's
update was delayed a few days by some technical
problems, but they're fixed now.
I've added another link.
We had a whole lot of people
participate in last month's poll. Check out the
results by clicking here.
Jama 3D is coming out sometime
this summer so I thought it might be a good time
to find out what people think about it. Clickteam
has told us an offal lot about it, as well as
answering many questions people have asked them
in their Web Board. Click here to
visit their web page on it.
Jama 3D will be an amazing
package for creating real time 3D games. It will
let you program your game entirely using
JavaScript. They've told us it will cost about $80
for the home version and $2500 for the pro
version. The only difference between the two is
that the home version will have a small Jama 3D
logo at the end of every game made with it. You
are allowed to make games and sell them with
either version.
This could be a really cool
program, but there are a few things I think
people should know about it. The fact that it
uses Java Script gives it far more power then
Multimedia Fusion, but also makes it harder for
people to learn who do not know how to program.
Also, when it first comes out there will be no
built in movements. If you want to make a racecar
game you have to program how a racecar moves from
scratch using JavaScript. Another thing to keep
in mind is that you cannot create your own 3D
models from within Jama 3D. If you don't own 3D
Studio Max or some program like it you may have
to just use the 3D models that come with Jama.
I think Jama 3D will be an
excellent package, but people need to know that
it's not going to be just a 3D version of The
Games Factory. What do you think about it? From
what you've heard do you plan on buying it? Let
us know by doing this month's online poll.
