I also resceved a letter from Mike K on this topic. Here's his letter:

I do not plan on buying Jama3D for the following reasons:

  • I don't know how to use Javascript and quite frankly, I don't care to learn. (A few snippets on webpages can be copied from anywhere!)
  • I do not want to spend more money on 3D modeling programs or other software which may be necessary to add objects to the games made in Jama.
  • MMF was initially crawling with bugs... why does anyone think Jama will be any different? (Sure Clickteam has great support, but do you really want to spend money on something full of bugs "again?"  Sorry, but not me.)
  • In a couple of years, some other company (or possibly Clickteam if they get ambitious) will devise another product which will be even easier for people to make 3D games.  Look... it's happened before with other products!
  • The hottest selling computers (at the moment) are the cheapos which sell for under $600 (like E-machines of Korea) and are not the top of the line 3D gaming systems.  People would rather pay a couple hundred for Sony Playstation to play games than a couple thousand for a computer which could be used for so much more.

Of course, if I ever magically learn Javascript overnight, stumble across a Freeware 3D modeler, find out that all bugs in Jama have been fixed and that people are splurging on the hottest gaming computers around... then maybe I'll have to rethink this all through.

Mike K

I got another letter responding to what Mike had to say. Here it is:

Mike, here's a few things to think about:
1. Isn't most software buggy on the first version?
2. Think about it, if you ever want to make a 3D game would you rather learn JavaScript, or C++?
3. I know of some good 3D modellers that are either free or cost $20 - $30
4. Lots of people play computer games, and most people have good computers to, the only reason most of us have N64 is because those are made by profesionals, a good looking, good playing 3D computer game would do just as well i'm sure.
